Shalom Levine!
Our youngest Levine Academy students are learning, exploring, and growing in our weekly Shalom Levine* class! Shalom Levine is a “parent and me” program offered every Tuesday and Thursday for children ages 6 months to 24 months. This is a wonderful introduction into the Early Childhood program.
Teaching the Shalom Levine class is one of the most rewarding and exciting aspects of our teaching career. It is wonderful to have such involved mothers, fathers, and grandparents spending valuable time with us. Not only are the parents and caregivers forming lifelong and lasting friendships, but their children are having a fun time, too. The best part for us is having moms and dads in the class who were once students themselves at Levine Academy/Solomon Schechter. We now have the unique opportunity to share these special memories with them as parents.
Throughout the school year we have gym time with Rhonda Adams from PowerKids, music with Lisa Gerstenfeld, movement class, and playtime with puppets and parachutes. On Thursday mornings, the Shalom Levine students join our Torah service. This is a wonderful time for us to connect with the whole Levine Academy Early Childhood community. Whether we are baking challah with grandparents, body painting with colored yogurt, or splashing in the water table, we are enjoying these activities all together.
We watch the Shalom Levine students start as infants at 6 months and grow into “waddlers” and toddlers. We really feel like they are our babies. We get so much “nachas” from witnessing their development. When the 8th graders stand up at Simchat Torah holding the unraveled Torah around the whole room, we sit and say, wow we taught them in the “parent and me” program. What a wonderful sense of satisfaction!
