5th Grade & The Legacy

Thank you to our Mitzvah Mensch, Neil Beckerman, our Mitzvah Makers, Hilary Stern and Paige Rothstein, and all of our 5th grade students for an amazing Sunday morning volunteering at The Legacy! What a special and meaningful experience for the students and the residents!

7th Grade & Dallas Holocaust Museum

What an experience for everyone who attended this Sunday’s Gala Mitzvah project at the Dallas Holocaust Museum! The 7th grade group started with a tour of the museum lead by Nate Levine and finished the afternoon with Holocaust Survivor Max Glauben sharing his story. Thank you to our Mitzvah Mensches, Jackie & Steve Waldman, Mitzvah Makers, Nicole Emmett & Heather Behr, and Nate Levine for creating such a meaningful experience.

8th Grade Partnership2gether, a Jewish Federation program

For the Levine Gala, the 8th-grade class is paired with Partnership 2Gether, a program of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas.   Sarah Golman, Direction of Global and Local Impact and Allocations of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, spoke with the 8th grade class about the Partnership 2Gether program and introduced them to Dallas’s partner region in Israel, the Western Galilee.  This is particularly relevant to the 8th-grade class since they will be visiting Dallas’ partner region when they travel to Israel in March.

6th Grade JFS Food Pantry Experience

The JFS Food Pantry Experience offers volunteers an opportunity for “active” philanthropy. Learning about what a family has gone through that has led to their food insecurity and then combining that information with what their weekly budget and other expenses are, provides powerful insight into what “food insecurity” truly means. Rather than donating a can of food to the pantry, volunteers are tasked to create a meal plan based on a given budget and then shop for the food the family needs. The 6th graders from Levine embraced this volunteer opportunity, with Kristen Jackson, JFS Community Engagement Manager, noting “They were the most engaged group we’ve had in a long time”. I trust that participating in the Food Pantry Experience will have a lasting impression on these students. On behalf of JFS, we look forward to their continued support of the agency as it strives to be an open door to anyone in need. -Julie Liberman
