Pam Karpel, 3rd Grade General Studies Teacher

When you are not teaching, what do you enjoy doing (hobbies)?

Outside of school, you can find me volunteering at the Winspear Opera House and Dallas Theatre Center. (Musical theater is my favorite!) I also enjoy reading and long walks (but not at the same time).

What is your favorite book and why?

While I cannot possibly pick a favorite book, I could not put down the book The Lost Letter by Jillian Cantor. It is a heart-breaking fictional book based on real Austrian resistance workers during World War II.

What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?

The invention of the computer has led to so many changes in the ability to communicate with others. I am able to use e-mail and Facebook to connect with family and friends that are far away. This past Mother’s Day, I was not able to travel to California to see my 94 year old aunt before she passed away, but I was able to FaceTime with her.  It was a blessing for us to see each other one last time.

Please include anything else you would like us to know (i.e. Background, Education, # of children in your family, etc.)

My family bleeds burnt orange! Not only did I graduate from the University of Texas many years ago, but my daughter graduated from there over a year ago, and my son has one year to go. Hook 'em Horns!
