Helene Berke, Middle School Science Teacher

This year I am excited that I am teaching 7th and 8th grade Science, which will give me the opportunity to focus on STEM labs, VEX Robotics competitive teams and ensuring that Levine students are leaders in the Science fields in high school. Attending training this summer with CIJE, Center for Initiatives in Jewish Education, I learned how to integrate coding and bytes into this year’s curriculum. In addition, there will be a new approach to teaching Science that will be student led. Sitting in Dr. Gereboff’s seminar, I was encouraged to let the students open their minds, expand on their ideas, refine if they do not first succeed and develop answers through the learning process. This method of teaching Science will excite all students. In addition, my classes will be skyping with NASA’s, Dr. Henry Throop. Dr. Throop is a programmer who is working on the 2020 Mars rover.
