Student Accomplishments

2006-2007

  • Mazal Tov to the students in the Levine Academy Class of 2007 on their high acceptance rate into Dallas Independent High Schools. Twenty-one acceptance letters were sent to the 19 students in the class of 2007 who applied to non-Jewish independent high schools. Two students had previously been accepted into the International Baccalaureate program at Plano ISD.

    To date, our students were accepted to the following independent schools:

    Hockaday: 1 accepted; 2 wait listed
    Parish Episcopal: 6 accepted
    Lakehill: 1 accepted
    St. Marks: 2 accepted; 1 wait listed

  • Mazal Tov to the following students qualifying for Duke Talent Identification Program: Connor Adell, David Dunsky, Melanie Goodman, Jillian Herstein, Tova Kline, Matthew Rosenstein, Jordan Rudner, and Nina Stern. These students scored in the 95th percentile or higher on verbal or math sections of the standardized achievement test taken in 6th grade.
  • Mazal Tov to Jillian Herstein '08 and Jordan Rudner '08 who, because of their scores on the SAT taken under the auspices of the Duke Talent Identification Program, were invited to participate in the Duke TIP Summer Program at Davidson College.
  • Mazal Tov to Rebecca Getto whose poem "Leaves of Change" won first place in the Poetry Society of Texas' Trees Award and was selected as one of only 10 Texas entries in the Manningham Award for 2008. This award is sponsored by the National Federation of State Poetry Societies.
  • Mazal Tov to Nathan Jajan '10 who won 2nd place in the Poetry Society of Texas’s “Enchanted Acres Award” Contest.  He was invited to read his poem during an awards ceremony held on May 5th at the Dallas Public Library.
  • Mazal Tov to Chelsea Raffkind '10 who had her poem about her pet cockatiel accepted for publication in the Duke Talent Identification Program Newsletter . In addition, Chelsea's "new word" submission to the Duke TIP Dictionary was accepted into this year's fourth/fifth grade "TIPionary."
  • Mazal Tov to Leigh Bonner '07 whose poem "Compair" won first place in the Poetry Society of Texas' Robby K. Mitchell Memorial Award.
  • Mazal Tov to Nina Stern '08 whose poem "Swish" won first place in the Poetry Society of Texas' Maahs Award.
  • Mazal Tov to Jonathan Mantel '07 whose poem "The Forest of the Mind" won second place in the Poetry Society of Texas' Imagination Award.
  • Mazal Tov to Tori Weinstein '08 whose poem "The Day My Life Stood Still" won third place in the Poetry Society of Texas' Mahan Prize.
  • Mazal Tov to Matthew Rosenstein '08 for taking 4th place in the Poetry Society of Texas Mahan Award for his poem "Charles Past and Present."
  • Mazal Tov to Emily Rosenfeld '08 for taking 4th place in the Poetry Society of Texas Hockaday School Banner Award for her poem "Arts Melody."
  • Mazal Tov to Molly Weinstock '07 for taking 5th place in the Poetry Society of Texas Bluebonnet Chapter Award for her poem "Fear."
  • Mazal Tov to the students whose team scored first in the State in the National News Bowl NAT (News Achievement Test) Competition. The exam was administered to student teams during the month of March. Over twelve hundred teams from across the nation competed in seven different grade level divisions.  Not only did the seventh and eighth grade teams score first place in the state, but the eighth grade team placed tenth in the nation, competing against 213 other teams.

    Congratulations to the students on the seventh grade team: Reagan Alhadef, Elijah Benzvi, Jillian Herstein, Andrew Leffler, Harris Rabinowitz, and Jessica Solls; students on the eighth grade team: Gabe Altman, Alex Bale, Leigh Bonner, Daniel Borejdo, Max Grunewald, Taryn Kaufman, Jamie Kleinman, Kenny Livingston, Rafi Parens, and Michelle Tanur; and Mrs. Nonie Schwartz who serves as the News Bowl faculty advisor.

  • Mazal Tov to Nathan Jajan '10 who received the "Arrow of Light" award. This is the highest award that can be earned as a Cub Scout.

  • Mazal Tov to Arielle Iola '09 who won "All-Around" in the All-Olympia Invitational Gymnastics Meet in Los Angeles on February 10, 2007.  Arielle competed for WOGA Level 8, 12 yr. olds, and won All-Around with a combined score of 37.30, consisting of Vault, 2nd Place, 9.30; Bars, 2nd Place 9.40; Floor, 4th Place 9.10, and Beam, 1st Place, 9.50.

  •  Mazal Tov to the following Levine Academy students whose team won the JCC Basketball Championship in their age group: Tommy Erlich '11, Jacob Herstein '11, Grant Prengler '11, Jake Prengler '11, and Jake Weiner '11; Mazal Tov to Ryan Subel '11 whose team came in second in the JCC Basketball Championship in its age group.

  • Mazal Tov to Brittany Horowitz '11 who received a silver medal at the ISI Love to Skate competition for her freestyle ice skating routine.

  • Mazal Tov to Gabe Altman '07, Daniel Borejdo '07 and Kenny Livingston '07 for taking home the first place trophy in the Points for Peace 6th - 8th grade boys basketball division.

  • Mazal Tov to Mitch Koenigsberg '10 and Jonathan Rosen '10 for receiving the Arrow of Light Badge. It is the highest rank a Cub Scout may receive.
  • Mazal Tov to Brady Goldberg '07 who received a gold medal in tennis at the JCC Maccabi Games in August.
  • Mazal Tov to Becca Genecov '07 who took home a silver and bronze medal in dance at the JCC Maccabi Games in August.
  • Mazal Tov to Becca Genecov '07 who competed in the American Academy of Ballet National Performance Awards Competition in New York City this past weekend and won the "runner up" position in her grade level.
  • Mazal Tov to Rebecca Spigel '09 and Chelsea Raffkind '10 on being chosen for the Dallas Children's Choir.
  • Mazal Tov to the following students who were chosen for the National Junior Honor Society: Aaron Poliak '07, Gabe Altman '07, Rafi Parens '07, Avia Weinstein '07, Emily Frank '07, Melissa Diamond '07, Jordan Rudner '08, Andrew Leffler '08, Alex Weinstein '08, Jessica Solls '08, Jillian Herstein '08, Ali Feinstein '08, and Tori Weinstein '08.
  • Mazal Tov to Noah Goetz '09 who was selected as “Student of the Year” by the American Karate and Tae Kwan Do Organization, Renbudo School. Noah has achieved the level of second degree brown belt and has been studying Karate since he was six years old.
